The game looks quite charming and even feels a tiny bit like Bloodstained: ROTN but with less depth to the combat. The visuals are more reminiscent of something like Afterimage. I just love the Christmas theme. Played until after the first boss, really fun Christmas metroidvania so far. Reminds me of a much less gloomy Ender Lilies, with the various combat ghosts and the map work in a similar way too.

The game has spells, healing items and charms which you can equip, though so far these options have been limited and are a far cry from the plethora of options presented in those other games that I mentioned.The death penalty = Almost any progress you have made is erased (money collected/map explored). Oddly, it seems that you keep items found. This led to an unusual situation of having an abilty that was gained from an area that was no longer mapped. I haven’t formed a real opinion on this death penalty yet. I died a couple of times and was able to recover fairly quickly. Endzone A World Apart

I’ve seen metroidvanias that pull off a harsh death penalty (Mortal Manor), but this system is largely unpopular in this genre. Not many movement options yet, but for now it controls well with the d-pad and according to the menu there seem to be plenty of items and heirlooms to find. Art is gorgeous and I appreciate the worldbuilding with the detailled lexicon about enemies, ghosts and heirlooms, love it when games do that (shame that there are no journal entries for the bosses though). Story and side quests seem unusally prominent for a metroidvania.

the game follows paths and mechanics that the vast majority of players will know by heart, action, platforms, backtracking… with two additions, how extremely beautiful the game looks, and the fact that the protagonist’s abilities are ghosts . It seems silly, but the dash, for example, is not the micro-precision movement of other games, there is a bit of a ‘lag’ until the ghost helps us do it, perfectly integrated into the playable design, there is no problem with that.
