A very fun little game so far; and an absolute vampire of my free time (but in a good way)! I smacks hard of Oxygen Not Included. The rats and the art style deliver a very charming visual aesthetic. happiness – they seem to be in a constant state of steady backwards slide no matter what I do. Taxes are…not confusing, but I would like a more expanded statistic view of citizen impact, adjustments, etc. The stats breakdown section is helpful, but…as a data manager IRL, I’d love to see a more fleshed out breakdown (timelines, variables, etc.). Until my citizens start getting super unhappy, it’s a very chill and relaxing zone-out game. But yeah, toning down the intensity of their unhappiness would be appreciated. Aside from that, I recommend this game! Especially if you enjoy 2D citizen management and building games

Make a detailed policy to tax them all!

Shouldn’t the people all work restlessly for more profit? Create or prevent social disasters with own policies. Diverse adventures placed Underworld shares similarities with games like Oxygen Not Included and Craft The World but Ratopia is very much its own game. You control the rat queen and expand your colony at your own pace. There are bugs but they’re being squashed fairly quickly. The economy and combat mechanics are pretty bare at the moment. It’s missing some quality of life features. For instance you have to be near a station or piece of furniture to assign a rat. Brothers in Hell

you can’t place blueprints without the supplies for them in your storage, you can’t set rat work priorities, and a few more minor inconveniences. Still, Ratopia has an incredible base to build upon, is very charming, and it has only been in early access for one day. I’m enjoying my time with this game and am excited for what future development holds. A great early access game with incredible potential. The tutorial doesn’t do a great job of explaining a lot of elements you need to know as you progress – for example, building an apiary requires honey bees.

Explore and find the remains of the great old rats.

Bring prosperity to the city through great expeditions.  Some might woke up new apex predators, but who cares? This was not made clear at all. Another pain point is the energy system. When your people get tired, they will go to bed, however each bed only gets a specific assigned rat to each bed, which is terribly inefficient. I wish there was a way to have a tired rat sleep in any available bed, as space in the early game is difficult to come by, and I ended up having to make 20 beds in a row, which was very silly since most were hardly used. It is really good. your character spawns in a step stool to reach tall rock deposits. The tab to go between foreground middleground and background objects of a singular tile is tricky to get used to, and makes certain areas feel a bit visually and gameplay wise cluttered, but it’s forgivable by just having cute characters carry around boxes of resources and acting busy. You can vegetarian raise rabbits for milk production.  events give out resources with a catch often. Has a level of thought and attention put into it from sound effects to character design that makes happy chemicals.
