The Pony Factory is a horror FPS inspired by Doom 3, with a striking aesthetic and dark sense of humor. An ok game that I originally played on the Dread X Collection and now as a standalone but the one thing I didn’t like was not being able to see what I am shooting at since you need to constantly switch between flashlight and your gun to see where the magical ponies are. Other than that its an ok game that looks good but it is short and I beat in under an hour.
Effective Level Design and Gameplay Experience
Even though the limitations are visible that this was made for the 7DFPS game jam with the limited enemy variety, repeating backgrounds, and storytelling relegated to mainly documents, it’s the pacing, gameplay, and scares that are still effective. Having to walk around with a flashlight because the environments are nearly pitch dark black-and-white, but if you spot an enemy, you have to switch to your bolt gun to put down these magical hellish ponies and you’re basically spraying and praying. The bipedal ponies that hit you with a mage-like attack make it easier to spot them in the dark but you’ll have only that millisecond to aim at them. The shooting feels good, and the enemies gib well as expected for a David Szymanski game. It’s quite an inspired setting, mixing religious horror with a meat plant and turning humans into ponies so they sin less to the point where sinning is calculated. The saves are for each level, so if you die, you have to repeat the whole level which are usually a few minutes long but because it’s so effectively scary (got jump scared a handful of times), I would be relieved after each level.
Aesthetic Simplicity and Terrifying Encounters in Urban Exploration
You can shine a light on a pony, and they won’t notice you, so you can strategies when to move and shoot in the dark. Once you complete the main objective, you’re escaping all the way back those levels, and even on normal difficulty, you will definitely want to use all the health kits and ammo pickups. Color gets introduced in this latter half to moody effect, and the story has a great final twist about your character. For less than 2 hours long, finally using the Doom 3 gimmick to good effect, and this price point, it’s an easy recommend. Rome: Total War – Collection

One of my favorites of Szymanski’s short games. I consider myself fairly desensitized to horror these days, but this one really gets under my skin. It makes you feel like an urban explorer, walking down the decrepit factory halls full of rusty machines and sharp turns. It features a between aesthetic with some great use of baked lighting, has a basic combat system with some light resource management, and lots of terrifying encounters. There’s a beauty in it’s simplicity.
Balancing Personal Preferences in The Pony Factory
The levels are you going from one door to another door while navigating a bunch of hallways, corridors, and big rooms. All the while, these enemies that are basically the Wendigos from David Szymanski’s other joint, Dusk, and their hybrid with Dusk’s other enemies, mages, will try to kill you. The level design is straightforward and linear so much so it kinda reminded me of Half Life. One of my friends always hated FPS games for how linear they are, and this game reminded me of that friend. However, this game uses its linearity to its advantage (and later on when you have to backtrack those levels).

However, you going to have lot of fun if you consider this game as a criticism on the brony fandom (I’m not saying this as a joke, there is some truly sick and twisted individuals in that fandom). Otherwise, this is yet another “Religion is Bad” video game. I am an atheist and even I am getting tired of these types of stories. I personally love Dusk and its story, which is another this type of story trope that I mentioned. However, Dusk was very minimalist in its approach. Meanwhile, in this game there is a lot wacky of letters left behind explaining why has everything gone to hell (pun intended) that were just so annoying. All in all, this aspect of the game was not my cup of tea, but it didn’t diminish the over all quality. rFactor 2

HOW TO CHANGE THE LANGUAGE OF A ANY GAME
1. Check the in-game settings and see if you can change it there. If not, continue down below. You might have to try and use Google Translate to figure out the in-game menus.

2a. Look for an .ini file in the game folder or subfolders. Could be called something like steam_emu.ini, steamconfig.ini, etc., but check all the .ini files. There should be a line for language/nickname that you can edit in notepad. If not, look for a “language” or “account_name” text file that you can edit.
