A Common Title for a Unique Game
“The Legend of Legacy” might as well have been named “The Legacy of Legends” or “The Quest of Adventures” due to its rather common title that doesn’t quite capture the game’s distinctive essence. This time around, they’ve included “HD Remastered” in the name, signaling an enhanced version of the 2015 original for the Nintendo 3DS. Created by FuRyu, with a team linked to the renowned Final Fantasy and SaGa series, the game’s quality craftsmanship is evident. Yet, it’s unexpected that the game didn’t captivate me as anticipated. The adventure begins with choosing one from a cast of seven heroes to lead your journey. While you’ll cross paths with and have the chance to team up with the rest, your initial choice adds to the game’s replayability by varying the early narrative and the finale. Your primary mission is to traverse the enigmatic island of Avalon. The lore of Avalon unfolds as you gather “Singing Shards,” which not only unveil the island’s ancient tales but also shape the destiny of Avalon and the fate of the heroes. Each hero’s tale culminates in a distinct ending, though none ascend to the heights of epic quests.
Soundtrack and Gameplay: A Harmonious Blend
The soundtrack’s charm is no surprise, given it’s the work of Masashi Hamauzu, famed for his compositions in several Final Fantasy titles. It harmonizes well with the game’s dynamic rhythm. The gameplay is a strategic turn-based combat system that emphasizes unit placement. Each turn, you decide your party’s formation, which can be tailored for offense, defense, support, and more, influencing your capabilities for that round. As you advance, you unlock additional formations, expanding your arsenal of weapon skills. Mastery of these weapons through frequent use unlocks Awakened skills, adding depth to the combat mechanics with more potent attacks. Stardew Valley
However, the game’s combat encounters a stumbling block when facing bosses. Each boss requires a specific strategy to defeat, and without proficiency in that approach, the difficulty becomes frustratingly steep. A strategy that may work seamlessly in one playthrough might necessitate extensive grinding in another. This could enhance the sense of achievement in subsequent playthroughs, yet it doesn’t alleviate the exasperation of being ill-equipped for a boss battle after breezing through previous encounters.
The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered Shared Mechanics, Divergent Focus
The combat system of “The Legend of Legacy” has been likened to the SaGa series, which remains uncharted territory for me. However, I am acquainted with “The Alliance Alive,” another FuRyu creation that debuted on the 3DS two years post “The Legend of Legacy.” “The Alliance Alive” also received a Switch HD remaster in 2019, presenting an intriguing point of comparison. While both games share combat mechanics, “The Alliance Alive” leans more heavily into narrative development, with less emphasis on exploration, aligning it with the conventional JRPG framework. This focus, however, tends to disrupt the flow of the game. Conversely, “The Legend of Legacy” places significant importance on environmental exploration, integral to the game’s progression, despite the narrative providing scant motivation for map completion.
Merging the strengths of these two titles could potentially yield a standout game for FuRyu. As they stand, they seem akin to two halves of a greater whole. Reflecting on my initial restaurant metaphor, it’s as if one establishment boasts delectable cuisine while the other offers an inviting ambiance, yet they fail to converge. Each game possesses enjoyable elements but falls short of garnering unequivocal endorsements. For enthusiasts of JRPGs, playing these games concurrently might present a fascinating challenge, though neither stands out as an essential experience in isolation. Alone in the Dark

HOW TO CHANGE THE LANGUAGE OF A ANY GAME
1. Check the in-game settings and see if you can change it there. If not, continue down below. You might have to try and use Google Translate to figure out the in-game menus.
– Steam Games –
2a. Look for an .ini file in the game folder or subfolders. Could be called something like steam_emu.ini, steamconfig.ini, etc., but check all the .ini files. There should be a line for language/nickname that you can edit in notepad. If not, look for a “language” or “account_name” text file that you can edit. (If not in the game folder, try C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\ SteamEmu Saves\settings). Save and open the game again.
– GOG Games –
2b. Same steps as Steam games except instead of .ini files, look for .info files
If these steps don’t work, then the files for the language you are looking for might not be included. We only check for English here.
