So now that I played a couple of your games Marginalact, I am starting to appreciate your work a little more, and to be honest I don’t think you get the credit for all the unique ideas that you do, personally I always saw the talent, just not the results, right until now – I think this it the best game you made so far, at least from those that I played. I think part of it is that, doing things that are very different is not going to register with people right away, I had the same experience with devs like Arkhouse, ApeHardware and RailSlave, I didn’t like their artistic vision at first, but eventually I became a big fan, and now I am a fan of your work as well. I do have one big problem with the game, I thought the narrative and how you were building the mystery was great, all the way until like literally the last 5 seconds, you gave me all of these interesting plot lines and then the game is like, this is it, you get 5 seconds of resolution. Look, I am not saying you have to change the overall conclusion, just maybe add a longer ending scene or two, maybe with a few interactions, perhaps a bit more context, cuz you created so much mystery and questions in a short time, just to run it into the ground, I was really disappointed that a decent story like that had so little time for closure. It took me about 2 hours to finish, not counting restarting my saves because of the update.

A Bold Choice: Breaking Away from Traditional Horror Tropes

Except for the ending, I really liked the relationship between Mum and Bunny, you could see that they both care, but also they are consumed by what is happening to them. There were some rare English problems, but overall I thought the dialogue worked well, and it was easy to follow the narrative. Very unique experience, never played anything exactly like that except maybe Isolania which had a similar gimmick. Now, the gameplay is boring and tedious which kinda complements the story, but I will still give you credit for doing something different, and not just doing another horror game where you walk around and open doors. The visual progression was good, the room changed several times, the retro textures were nice, most of the models looked uncanny. A lot of weird psychological effects. ersonally I would like for you to go back and just contextualize the ending a bit more, keep it what it is, just give me another 30-60 seconds or a few more scenes there, it’s an interesting story, but you kinda just dropped it in 5 seconds after so much anticipation. Say, I know you can make walking-sim games, have a little segment like that at the end, her doing the thing she says she will do, have a little moment of serenity.

The Overall Thought of Bedrotting

There were some great and poor effects in the game. I thought most of the demon models and how you would move them looked nice, but I didn’t care much for you spamming heads or eyes, it felt a bit on the nose, I think you had some effects in the game that were a lot more effective, like the water or the blood room. Maybe next game instead of having this weird loading system, also unlock loading points for the levels, so if you do break my save files, at least I can just go to the level that I want.

If it wasn’t for that extremely abrupt ending I would say you handled the story and the characters perfectly, I felt like their perspectives were genuine, and I liked the mystery around what happened to them, as well as the weird vibes I got from the news. Even though the gameplay is tedious, I like the unique idea and that it complements the experience, there were some bad effects, but also a lot of interesting visual progression as well. So yea, if you like weird games that can make you uncomfortable, it certainly does that. Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster
