Exploring the Ambivalence of Gameplay
Overall it has the same feel and nostalgia of the prequels and is very pretty. It’s improved a lot since I played the initial demo and I would recommend and I support the Devs. Although saying that I’m just over 3 hours in and I’m not sure if I am playing a full campaign or an extremely long-winded tutorial, the basic game mechanics have been explained but it still feels very linear and restrictive, perhaps things open up later on? Right now though the linear quests are becoming tedious, particularly as I’m over-emcumbered and having to speed walk everywhere with no way to offload items by selling them as the shops are closed. Most hidden chests are empty – am I supposed to offload them here or will my loot disappear? For now I walk and walk and walk… Some QOL suggestions would be a map with fast travel to avoid the endless back and forth walking on the island (although of course we want to explore and even get lost some times, but perhaps after the first visit a fast travel unlocks?). No real bugs yet but the camera shakes violently when climbing stairs or walking over bumps which makes you dizzy and I often get stuck behind crew once a battle finishes making it difficult to access the boarded ship.
Assessing the Main Character’s Lackluster Performance
The camera also gets stuck and does not readjust when first entering below deck of the boarded ship making it difficult to move around. The voice acting of the main character is pretty awful, but passable. Fencing and combat is pretty fun once you get the hang of it, the musket is a little fiddly, seems no need to aim as it seems to make no difference so long as the enemy is highlighted. Ship battles are also fun but switching from aim to auto shoot seems a little finicky. Having the experience of other games of the Corsair series, the player thinks that it will be at least better, more content, forgetting 2 simple words “early access”. This is not a release. If you take the game in a vacuum, the main mechanics are already there and working. But we want everything now and in early access, and on the first day and without bugs. In my opinion, the trailer and screenshots are too cool, suggesting what the game “should be”, not what it is “now”.
Intriguing Endings and Developer Intentions in Corsairs Legacy
The game is obviously not yet on par with my beloved Sea Dogs games and mods. Nevertheless, many mechanics and functionalities that I know from the Sea Dogs series are already implemented and quite enjoyable. Even more, the graphics are incredibly beautiful and the ship models are lovely to look at. The first location, Barbados, is also nice since it offers seamless movement through the jungle to a plantation or lighthouse and even into buildings, which are all open for exploration. This alone gives me incredible hope for the successors of this first Corsairs Legacy game to become even better and greater.

The world of piracy and the high seas is a captivating premise for any game. The developers of Corsairs Legacy tried to make a pirate life simulator but were just out of luck when it came to its execution. Just a quick note, and probably not a spoiler, the end of the game hints at another chapter of the adventure, so I don’t know what the devs are going for with this one. The game feels unpolished with a few glitches so knowing that the ending is not the ending made me think twice about their intention. Pony World 2
